Pedro Pablo Oliva

Pedro Pablo Oliva is considered to be one of the most famous and influential artists in Cuba today. His works have become a obligatory reference point for art critics and fine arts historians around the world. Born in Pinar del Rio in 1949, his work is influenced by neo-expressionism. He often portrays children, animals and fantastic figures, placing these characters in what he imagines to be the utopias and dystopias of modern-day Cuba. He describes his paintings as a series of memories, and his body of work is a detailed, mind-bending, and profound visual representation of Cuban history and politics over the last five decades.
