Ítalo René Expósito

Ítalo sits on the porch of his home in Vedado in Havana, Cuba.

Painting has been a part of Ítalo René Expósito's life since he can remember. As a child, one of his first memories is of a painting by Cuban artist, Maria Pepe La Marque. Until this day, its three white flowers in a vase, representing the three falls of Christ, embody, to him, the soul of his family. Influenced by his Italian and Catholic upbringing, his work plays with the fine line between universal memory and an artists's unique perspective. His work channels art through the ages, building on the study of the great artists over time, and manifests itself as the many stories that make up his life in present-day Havana.
