Antonio Hernández's photographic work is in the genera of contemporary visual arts in Cuba. Self-taught he has risen to great heights, respected as a true professional among his peers and academia, in analog photography. He has proficiency in both abstract artistic as well as documentary photography.
His work has demonstrated his mastery of the follow forms. Structure and perspective of the subject matter, frame composition, deep searching of themes, working with light and shadows, contrast and scale.
In Hernández's photography there is a provocative element by his careful aesthetic study of visual arts. It is evident in his subject matter; an accentuated focus to the movement and the planes as he captures urban surroundings in Havana. The subject matter is frank dialogue with the city he inhabits and is one of the most appreciated characteristics of his work.
He also explores other media and trends such as those offered by digital photography.
Trained through courses and workshops in photography at UNEAC (The National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.) Collections of his work have received national acclaim, such as winning first prize at the las National Biennial of Visual Arts in memory of Alfredo Sarabia. He has been awarded and celebrated by the Provincial Council of Visual Arts in Pinar del Rio as well as Fototeca de Cuba 2017 and the 3rd National Contest of Artistic Lenses (promoted by the Office of National Monuments & Historic Sites, Havana.) One of his photographic essays has received Honorable Mention in the Raúl Corrales Creation Scholarship, (National Council of Visual Arts, and the Fototeca de Cuba 2017, 2018) a highly important national recognition for this genre.
