Yamila’s work incorporates natural elements that speak to the weight of oppression in a freedom-less society. In 2009 and 2010, she staged public performances (“Without Permits” and “Extensions”) in a park in Pinar del Rio on Human Rights Day, for which she endured official harassment in the years that followed.
